Supporting Kinship Carers at Work | Kabir Family Law

Kabir Family Law is a Bronze Standard Kinship Friendly Employer, recognised by Kinship in August 2026. We support colleagues who are kinship carers — family members or friends who step in to raise a child when their parents are unable to do so. We recognise that kinship care often begins in difficult and unexpected circumstances, and that colleagues in this position may need understanding, flexibility and clear support.

Our Kinship Friendly Employer journey

Kinship, the leading kinship care charity in England and Wales, runs the Kinship Friendly Employer scheme, which recognises employers at Bronze, Silver and Gold standards against published checklists of workplace policies. We are [working towards Bronze Standard recognition / recognised at Bronze Standard as of August 2026. This reflects our commitment to recognising, valuing and supporting kinship carers within our own workplace, as well as the kinship carers we support through our family law practice.

What kinship care means

Kinship carers are relatives or friends who step up to raise a child when their parents are not able to do so, often during an unexpected crisis. Many kinship carers take on day to day parenting responsibilities while also navigating emotional, legal and financial pressures. We recognise the commitment this involves and want our policies and culture to respond with empathy and practical support.

Our kinship friendly commitments – As part of our Kinship Friendly Employer journey, we are:

  • Ensuring that kinship carers in our team are recognised within our family friendly policies, on the same basis as other colleagues with caring responsibilities.
  • Providing managers with guidance to help them support kinship carers with flexibility and understanding.
  • Improving internal signposting so that any colleague who becomes a kinship carer can easily find information about support and policies.
  • Marking Kinship Care Week each year — it runs from 5 to 11 October in 2026 — with internal communications and social media activity to raise awareness of kinship care and highlight the support available.

These measures are part of our wider aim to support colleagues with all kinds of caring responsibilities, including kinship carers.

Support and information for kinship carers
